Java Tea

We have traditionally been recognised as being Indonesian Coffee Specilaists. While this is true, we also take pride in the Javanese Tea that we offer.

Java has been supplying tea to some of the world’s finest Tea merchants for centuries. The plantations of West Java produce tea that is exported to Europe under a variety of famous brand names. The high altitude tea of Central Java is likewise well known by tea drinkers all over the globe.

We have chosen two teas of character as the first in our series to promote Indonesian tea. The two are both grown and processed in the Central Java region- one at high altitude, the other at medium altitude.

High Altitude Grown Black Tea
High Grown Java Black Tea:

Gentle essence of light oils makes this tea naturally heavier than lower grown teas. The cupping experience is similar to that of an Earl Grey tea (but without any added essences). The tea is grown at 1800m above sea-level. It is a great tea for drinking in the afternoon or with dinner. At this altitude the hot Java days are far, far away. Even at midday temperatures can be quite cool. The climate helps the growers to prepare the tea as a heavier, more flavoursome cup.

Low Altitude Java Tea
Plantation Java, low altitude Black Tea.

A lighter and fragrant tea, this cups with a slight natural Jasmine fragrance. A great tea to be enjoyed with breakfast or lunch. This tea is grown and processed on a government owned estate. The tea has been grown here for over 200 years.

The Dwi Pangga Java Express- by train through Java to Purwokerto.
The Javanese countryside flashes by, a myriad of different greens. On either side of the track rice fields stretch into the haze of the hot and distant horizon. This is the rice bowl of Java. Sawah, or Paddy as they are more commonly called, are neatly parceled right up to the edge of the railway line. Villages, like islands in a sea of shimmering green, are dotted at intervals amongst the fields
